New England Patriots’ Tom Brady Bragged About Having Jets’ Playbook

Reports are surfacing that the New England Patriots and quarterback Tom Brady have acquired access to the New York Jets defensive playbook. At this time, it is hearsay, but here’s how it goes down according to Cleveland Browns’ head coach Mike Pettine during an interview with Greg Bedard.

Pettine tells a story while at Wes Welker’s wedding about Brady bragging to the Jets’ outside linebackers coach Mike Smith, who was Welker’s college roommate, that the Patriots possibly had copies of the Jets’ defensive playbook.

Pettine had this to say in his interview with Bedard, as reported CBS Boston.

It didn’t shock me because Rex would give them out like candy anyway. He gave one out to [Alabama coach Nick] Saban and I was like, Don’t you know Saban and Bill [Belichick] are pretty good friends? I have a feeling it’s going to end up in New England.
Pettine, the former Jets defensive coordinator, also discussed why he does not include too much information in his Cleveland playbook.

We know in places like New England, it’s only a matter of time that they somehow mysteriously end up with our playbook, Pettine said.
That’s a lofty charge, especially considering that in the story he relayed, it was Rex Ryan’s own carelessness that supposedly led to outside sources gaining access to the playbook.

Again, this is hearsay, but it is interesting to consider. Whether Brady has studied the playbook or not, he has been successful against the Jets. Brady and the Patriots have won 18 out of the 26 regular season games between the teams. He has completed 62 percent of his passes and averaged 215 yards per game.

The highlight of Brady’s career against the Jets was a televised game in December of 2010 when he completed 21-of-29 passes for 326 yards with four touchdowns and zero intereptions.

Coincidentally enough, it would appear that the Jets changed their playbook, as a few weeks later the Jets kept a tighter hold containing Brady in the playoffs.

What to do? Just get a laugh out of this whole alleged cheating/playbook incident for now.
