Discussions of a new contract between the New York Giants and wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. took place prior to the start of the season. Those discussions that were put on the back burner, reportedly have crept up again.
Sources close to both Beckham and the Giants indicate that an in-season contract deal could take place, according to Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports. This would be a rarity since contract negotiations typically cease once the regular season kicks off. Many teams consider them a distraction.
Beckham is currently finishing the fourth year of his rookie deal that pays him a conservative average of just $1.8 million annually. That is a huge bargain considering Beckham is among the best at his position in the NFL.
OBJ obviously knows this and went on record recently to say he wants to be the highest paid player in the league. That’s not going to happen, but Beckham deserves a major raise.
The fourth-year receiver has put up no less than 1,305 yards and 10 touchdowns per season since being drafted 12th overall by the Giants in 2014.
