Cardinals’ Carson Palmer: Offense will change ‘drastically’ moving forward

The Arizona Cardinals lost their cornerstone player after star running back David Johnson injured his wrist in Week 1. Johnson’s loss leaves the Cardinals to attempt to fill the void with five other running backs.

Quarterback Carson Palmer weighed in on the situation.

“It changes drastically,” quarterback Carson Palmer said of Arizona’s offense, per John Weinfuss of ESPN. “You lose, who I think, is one of the best football players in this league, things are obviously going to change.”

The team must now find creative ways to move the ball down field. This is going to be extremely challenging considering Johnson averaged 23 touches and 132.4 total yards per game in 2016.

Not one running back on the Cardinals’ roster is positioned for this much individual success. Head coach Bruce Arians said that Kerwynn Williams will be the starting running back in Week 2. But he will be spelled by Andre Ellington, and the re-signed Chris Johnson as well as Elijhaa Penny and D.J. Foster.

The Cardinals receivers should also be in line for more targets from Palmer.

Arizona travels to seek its first win against the discombobulated Indianapolis Colts in Week 2.
