Michael Vick lofts praise Patrick Mahomes’ way

NFL star in the making, Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes

Michael Vick is spent the summer working as an intern for the Kansas City Chiefs. For the former quarterback, it was a quick career change after he retired from the NFL just recently.

Now, in talking about a player he helped mentor this summer, the former No. 1 overall pick had some glowing reviews. Of course, we’re talking about rookie first-round pick Patrick Mahomes.

“I’ve seen it firsthand. I’ve seen Patrick Mahomes do some things that I wish I could have done with my arm in terms of throwing on the run. And I was one of the best at it, outside of the pocket, being mobile,” Vick told Colin Cowherd of Fox Sports 1 . “But this kid can make some throws that are going to shock the world. And I’m so anxious to see him play down the road, in the future at some point. But right now he’s going through the phases of maturation and learning the system and becoming a complete quarterback.”

Mahomes has been super impressive in his first two NFL preseason games. The Texas Tech product is completing 74 percent of his passes with three touchdowns and zero interceptions.

While it won’t be enough to unseat Alex Smith as the team’s starter heading into the regular season, Mahomes’ performance bodes well for the Chiefs’ future.

Vick knows first hand exactly how important making plays with your feet can be in today’s NFL. Add in Mahomes’ rocket arm, and he has a chance to be absolutely dynamic down the road. For Vick to loft praise the rookie’s way, it has to be telling.
