Isaiah Thomas on Boston: ‘I would love to be here for years to come’

NBA playoffs Isaiah Thomas

Isaiah Thomas has enjoyed great success as a member of the Boston Celtics. He’s entering the final year of his contract, and speaking on Tuesday he made it clear Boston is where he wants to stay for the long haul.

Of course, the cynical part of us knows that Thomas has to say something like this. Few athletes would publicly say that they want to leave their current team with a full year left on the contract. It wouldn’t be unprecedented, but it would be rare.

On the other hand, Thomas wanting to remain in Boston only makes sense. He’s already made it clear he is extremely excited about the team’s new additions and has enjoyed the best years of his career by far with the Celtics. That run includes his only two All-Star teams (2016, 2017) and All-NBA second team honors in 2017.

He’s also helped turn Boston into one of the NBA’s best teams. With a young nucleus and future assets in the form of draft picks, the Celtics will be a threat for a while.

A lot can change over the next year. But if Boston has the money to make it happen, the Celtics should be the clear favorites in the bid for Thomas’ services.
