Theft and battery charges dropped against NFL safety Matt Elam

Matt Elam

Former Baltimore Ravens first-round pick Matt Elam found himself in some hot water back in May when he was arrested on grand theft and battery charges.

This came on the heels of a drug arrest earlier in the year.

While Elam still has the drug case hanging over his head, the aforementioned grand theft and battery charges have been dropped.

This likely won’t change Elam’s status as a free agent.

Prior to these two off-field issues, Elam was suspended by the NFL for violating the league’s substance abuse policy back in 2015. His recent drug charges could likely lead to another suspension from the league.

Elam played three seasons with the Ravens after being selected in the first round of the 2013 NFL Draft. He started in 26 of the 41 games he appeared, recording 130 tackles and one interception.
