Report: Cavaliers will not land Paul George or Jimmy Butler

NBA draft, Paul George trade

The Cleveland Cavaliers are currently without a general manager after moving on from David Griffin earlier in the week. This has not stopped the Cavs from attempting to improve a roster that has earned three consecutive trips to the NBA Finals.

Among the names bandied about are Paul George and Jimmy Butler. Though, it does not appear that Cleveland has enough assets to add either All-Star player.

Without a pick in Thursday’s draft, Cleveland’s best asset right now is Kevin Love. According to the aforementioned report from ESPN’s Brian Windhorst, Love simply isn’t drawing enough interest in potential trades.

For his part, Butler has reportedly indicated that he’s not interested in moving on from the Chicago Bulls. That complicates things a bit further here.

Despite earning three consecutive trips to the Finals, it became readily apparent that Cleveland needs to upgrade its roster in order to compete with the Golden State Warriors next season. The issue here is that the team doesn’t have much flexibility to do that.
