Myles Garrett misses last minicamp practice, foot injury still being evaluated

Myles Garrett is a freak among freaks in the NFL Draft

The Cleveland Browns drafted Myles Garrett with the No. 1 overall picks this April to be a cornerstone defender for years to come. So far this spring, however, he’s been unable to do much more than show flashes of his potential due to a foot injury, which caused him to miss a good portion of OTA practices.

Then Wednesday during minicamp practice, Garrett went down with a left foot injury after making a sack during a two-minute drill. He limped to the sideline after being evaluated, then took a knee. He was seen limping into the locker room after practice was called due to lightning, and the rookie was also unable to practice Thursday due to the foot injury.

Garrett’s foot injury is still being evaluated by team doctors, an evaluation “which could include an X-ray, MRI, or CT scan,” per Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com.

The Browns are saying the injury is not serious, but at this time it’s unknown if that’s a true statement or not.

“One reason the sight of Garrett clutching the bottom of his foot causes concern is that two current players are recovering from Lisfranc midfoot surgeries, which take about a year from which to recover,” Cabot wrote.

Not surprisingly, Garrett is frustrated to be sitting out practices. He wants to prove himself to his coaches and teammates.

“I mean, I don’t like sitting on this side,” he had said Tuesday before this latest setback. “I want to be out there grinding just like they are.”

Garrett struggled through his final year at Texas A&M with an ankle injury on the same left foot.

This latest development is frustrating, not only for him but for the franchise, which cannot afford to have another first-round bust. An injury during OTAs and minicamp doesn’t denote a bust, but for a franchise that hasn’t experienced much winning in the past few decades, every setback seems fraught with doom.
