Stephen Jones jokes about ‘Boys hoping to land ‘the next Tony Romo’

Tony Romo

The Dallas Cowboys are now without quarterback Tony Romo for the first time since 2004. But it seems the Cowboys’ brass are already looking to discover the next undrafted gem in the mold of Romo. Or not.

Stephen Jones joked about that on Wednesday.

Romo was an undrafted free agent back in the day when the Cowboys signed him 14 years ago.

He was ousted from his starting job by rookie quarterback Dak Prescott in 2016 after suffering a broken bone in his back, which eventually led to him taking a job with CBS Sports.

Since starting for the Cowboys in 2006, Romo led the team to the postseason in 2006, 2007, 2009 and 2014.

A Super Bowl run would have been the ultimate goal, but it did not happen in Romo’s time. For now, the Cowboys have a brilliant new signal caller that has already taken the Cowboys to the playoffs, Dak Prescott.

Right now, there is no reason to seek out another Romo. Prescott is doing just fine.
