Tony Romo reflects on never winning a Super Bowl

Tony Romo

Not every great quarterback finishes his career with a Super Bowl victory. Some never play in the big game. Tony Romo is one who never did make it to the NFL’s championship game, which is not something that is easily swept aside for the former Dallas Cowboys gunslinger.

Speaking to reporters Tuesday morning, Romo acknowledged it’s a hard reality to accept.

“I guess it just makes you feel that you accomplished something in some ways because I feel like I left something out there that I always wanted to accomplish,” Romo said, per Jon Machota of Dallas News. “And I got to live with that. That’s part of playing sports. It doesn’t always go the way you expect. You can put everything into it and sometimes it works out and sometimes it doesn’t. But it doesn’t mean you can be OK with it.”

This is some blunt honesty about how difficult is is on athletes who aim for the pinnacle but who never reach it. It also shows Romo still has the competitive fire burning. Perhaps this is why he cannot fully commit to being 100-percent retired.

At this point, nobody should rule out Romo pulling a Brett Favre on us by coming back sometime this year or next year when perhaps circumstances have changed around the NFL. Last year after his back had healed, Romo was said to be in phenomenal shape and spinning the ball as well as ever during Cowboys practices.

Of course, there’s also the chance that Romo starts to enjoy the broadcasting booth and decides it’s not worth the physical toll to make a comeback. Whatever he chooses, we look forward to seeing what the next adventure holds for Romo.
