We’ve known since yesterday, but the New Orleans Saints just made it official: Adrian Peterson will join them next season. Peterson, age 32, who has played 20 game in the past three years, will be paid about $3 million and likely back up current Saints running back Mark Ingram.

New Orleans head coach Sean Payton put out a milquetoast statement welcoming Peterson to the Saints, calling it “a rare and unique to have the opportunity to add a Hall of Fame player to your roster.”

If Peterson stays healthy, sure he can contribute, but he also has to accept a lesser role. He simply isn’t the best back on this team and until he acknowledges that he’ll be a backup and sounds happy about it, we should look at this situation skeptically.
