Report: Patriots, Darrelle Revis have not discussed his return

Darrelle Revis

Despite a report indicating the New England Patriots and Darrelle Revis could be an item this offseason, the two parties have reportedly yet to discuss a reunion.

“The Patriots and Darrelle Revis have not discussed a deal that would bring the cornerback back to New England, according to CSNNE’s Tom Curran,” wrote CSN Staff on CNSNE.com.

A key member of the Patriots’ 2014 Super Bowl-winning team, Revis could potentially sign with New England at a discounted rate, if the team was interested. He was cut recently by the New York Jets, who still owe him $6 million because of the huge deal he signed with the club a couple years back.

He’s expressed interest in joining his hometown Pittsburgh Steelers, but that’s reportedly not going to happen.

At the age of 31, Revis is certainly a shell of his former self. Once a player that made quarterbacks pay for daring to throw his way, Revis was repeatedly picked on last season (watch here) and also showed a disturbing lack of effort at times.

If the Patriots are not interested in Revis’ services in 2017, one wonders if he’ll remain jobless heading into training camp. At the least, it stands to reason he’ll have to wait until at least after the 2017 NFL Draft as teams look to get younger and take advantage of the deep class of defensive backs coming out of college.
