Josh McCown will earn $5 million if Jets win Super Bowl LII

Josh McCown

The New York Jets signed Josh McCown to a one-year, $6 million deal on Monday. According to Albert Breer of MMQB, the deal could be worth much more.

Per Breer, McCown will make $125 thousand for each game in which he takes more than 50 percent of the snaps. The deal also includes some optimistic language about playoff and even Super Bowl appearances (and wins).

We have to say now that New York appears pretty safe in regards to not having to pay the $5 million in postseason and Super Bowl incentives.

The Jets haven’t made the playoffs since 2010 and are entering a clear rebuilding phase in 2017. McCown is a soon to be 38-year-old journeyman who’s never even been a backup quarterback for a postseason team and has an 18-42 record as a starter in the NFL.

In the interest of fairness, though, we also have to point out that, excluding the New England Patriots, New York is the only AFC East team to win even a single playoff game since Tom Brady became New England’s starter in 2001.

So, no harm in covering all bases, we suppose.
