Former MLB pitcher Anthony Young reportedly has inoperable brain tumor

In an unfortunate piece of news, reports are surfacing that former New York Mets pitcher Anthony Young has been diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor.

Young, who pitched with the Mets from 1991-93, disclosed his condition at the Mets’ fantasy camp this past week. According to the NY Daily News, doctors are unsure if the tumor is malignant. They simply know it’s in an area of the brain they cannot treat.

Young, 51, holds the the Major League record with the most consecutive losing decisions. It came during a 14-month span that saw him lose 27 consecutive decisions.

Beloved by Mets fans, Young also played for the Chicago Cubs and Houston Astros during a six-year career in the Majors that saw him post a 15-48 record with a 3.89 ERA.

Our thoughts go out to Young, his family and the entire Mets organization during this most difficult of times. Let’s all hope for good news down the road here. He’s still a young man with a lot of life to live.
