There are editors for a reason. Most papers also has specific headline writers for a reason. It’s all part of the process. A process that includes providing quality content and making sure all your I’s are dotted and T’s are crossed.

Unfortunately, mistakes are sometimes made. The idea of formulating a sexy headline also plays a role in this often.

Whatever the reason, the New York-based “Newsday” paper struggled with its headline big time following the New York Mets’ win over the Miami Marlins on Tuesday.

“Smooth sailing with sharp Noah.”

This was just the Marlins’ second game back on the diamond after 24-year-old pitcher Jose Fernandez died in a boating accident in Miami early Sunday morning.

Since that unspeakable tragedy, the baseball world has united in helping the Marlins, if at all possible, find a way to cope with the loss of a dearly-loved teammate.

We have no idea how this headline was actually printed, but it speaks to issues we see in media more today than ever before. Let’s just hope it was an honest mistake.
