LOOK: Colin Kaepernick sporting amazing Afro

San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick is all over the news for making a political statement late last month.

It’s a statement that stands up against the perceived oppression of minorities in the United States. His protest came in the form of sitting for the national anthem prior to San Francisco’s preseason game against the Green Bay Packers last week.

It now appears that Kaepernick might be making a fashion statement. At least, it would appear that way to those who have been hiding under a rock for the past week.

No, the news here is not that Kaepernick is going to start Thursday’s preseason finale. Instead, it’s about that hairdo.

First off, that’s one amazing Afro. We have to give him credit for that off the bat, right?

Secondly, this has to be seen as a continuation of the political statement Colin himself has been making for the past week.

The ancestor of this hairdo dates back to the 1960’s in the United States when the African-American civil rights movement was prevalent.

Among those taking part in that movement, there was an off-branch self-titled “black is beautiful.” Members of that movement sported hair styles called “Afros” or “Natural.”

It might be pure conjecture, but we can conclude that Kaepernick is paying homage to those trendsetters and civil rights leaders.

As it is, let’s sit back in amazement of this hairdo while hoping it doesn’t prevent Kap from putting on his helmet come Thursday night.
