Report: Bears LB Danny Trevathan to have surgery on thumb

Things keep getting worse for the 0-2 Chicago Bears. According to Rich Campbell of The Chicago Tribine, Inside linebacker Danny Trevathan suffered a thumb injury in Monday’s loss to the Philadelphia Eagles that will require surgery.

An immediate timetable for his return was not available. Campbell did note that the Bears won’t put Trevathan on IR. That indicates, at least now, that he could come back within eight weeks.

This is a rough injury for a Bears’ team that’s already in the midst of a terrible start.

Chicago’s run defense has been one of the team’s few bright spots. The Bears have surrendered only 3.4 yards per carry on the young season, which is the eighth best total in the NFL. With Trevathan out, that total is almost certain to take a hit.

If this injury seems like déjà vu for Bears’ fans, it should. A thumb injury suffered on Monday night might also keep quarterback Jay Cutler out of action for a while.
