The Philadelphia Eagles took care of their 2012 second-round pick, Vinny Curry out of Marshall, when they agreed to terms on a new five-year, $47.25 million deal.
Curry has since paid it forward by donating $200,000 to the college that eventually awarded him the opportunity to play in the NFL.
“Marshall means a lot to me,” Curry said, per Woody Woodrum of herdinsider.com. “Without the opportunity, I was given to receive an education and play football, I would not be in the position I am today. I haven’t forgotten that.”
Curry’s donation now allows Marshall to embark on the “Vinny Curry Project.” The funds donated will be distributed to renovate the college’s locker room and upgrade the Shewey Building. Furthermore, additional money from Curry’s gift will go towards a scholarship named in honor of his late mom, Linda “Cissy” Jackson, per the report.
Curry’s education was always important to his mother.
“If she was still here, I know how proud she would be that I am a college graduate. I came here with not a lot of direction and the academic foundation that Marshall provided gave me a chance to be successful in life.”
