Golfer Tony Finau offers flowers, chocolates to fan struck by drive

Golfer Tony Finau hit an errant drive in Saturday’s round at the DEAN & DELUCA Invitational that, unfortunately, struck someone in the gallery. To make matters worse, the errant shot drew significant blood, forcing the fan to require medical attention.

Fortunately, this story has a happy ending. Most importantly, the fan is okay. She posted a before and after photo on Instagram which included a shot of her and Finau, who offered her an apology flush with flowers and chocolate.

The wonderful gesture also got Finau a new fan.

This serves as a nice reminder for a few things.

One, when you go to a golf tournament, keep your head up. Fans, even those paying complete attention, are often hit by balls. Fortunately, they don’t often cause injuries but giving how fast they’re moving, they certainly can.

Two, Finau is a complete class act. He was genuinely rattled by hitting a fan and went above and beyond to make things right.

Well done, Mr. Finau. It’s safe to assume that you’ve won more than just one new fan this week.
