Chris Harris on Antonio Brown: “The best receiver in the game right now”

While Carolina Panthers cornerback Josh Norman continues to throw shots at Odell Beckham Jr. through social media after the two went at it in New Jersey on Sunday, another top-end defensive back is praising his opponent from this weekend’s action.

Denver Broncos cornerback Chris Harris sounded off a bit regarding his performance against Pittsburgh Steelers receiver Antonio Brown in Denver’s narrow road loss on Sunday:

“It was the best versus the best, and he won. I haven’t given up a touchdown in two years. For me to come out here and play the way I played is disappointing,” Harris said, via the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. “I definitely let the team down. He’s a great player. The best receiver in the game right now, but I didn’t make any plays in this game.”

Brown ended the evening with 14 receptions for 164 yards and two touchdowns. This helped Pittsburgh overcome a 17-point deficit en route to an impressive home win against the first-place Broncos. Overall, Brown caught 14 of the 15 passes thrown in his direction against Harris.

To put this into perspective, Harris entered Sunday’s action having allowed 39 receptions for 367 yards without a touchdown in 13 games.

The two touchdowns Harris allowed represented the first two times that he has allowed a score since Week 12 of the 2013 season.

It makes sense that Harris would come out of this one a bit humbled. After all, the performance Brown put up was among the most dazzling we have seen this year.

Through 14 games, Brown has now recorded 116 receptions for 1,586 yards and nine touchdowns while catching 70 percent of the passes thrown in his direction. Over the past six games, Brown has put up 64 catches for 868 yards.

Those are some startling stats right there. They also have Pittsburgh on the verge of earning a return trip to the postseason.
