Report: Drew Brees expected to play in Week 4

After missing a week with a shoulder injury, Drew Brees is expected to make the start in Week 4 for the New Orleans Saints against the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday Night Football.

According to Pro Football Talk’s Darin Gantt, head coach Sean Payton is expecting Brees to make the start.

“I think he’s planning on starting and we’re planning on starting him,” Payton said. “He looked crisp today. I think he’s going to end up starting and based on the way the week unfolded each day, I felt like he’s made the progress we’re looking for.”

The Saints could sure use his services. Luke McCown was efficient during Brees’ absence but couldn’t manage much in the way of scoring against the Carlolina Panthers.

Provided Brees is actaully healthy and not just out there gutting it out, the Saints might just have a chance to beat the Cowboys, who are coming into Week 4 with a backup quarterback of their own in Brandon Weeden and without star receiver Dez Bryant.

The Saints haven’t won a game yet, and one more loss might seal the team’s fate at the quarter mark of the 2015 season.
