Former Jets punter Steve Weatherford earns $51,000 for one day of work

Steve Weatherford punted four times during the New York Jets loss to the New England Patriots, and he’s a wealthier man for his one day of work.

Per a report from Sean Wagner-McGough of CBS Sports, Weatherford collected approximately $51,000 after averaging 40.3 yards per punt last Sunday. He was originally signed for a minimum salary of $870,000. If you take that amount and divide it by 17 weeks, it equals $51,176.

The Jets released Weatherford because starting punter Ryan Quigley is healthy again, but it was an interesting week for the former New York Giants punter. While on his radio show, Weatherford received the news he was signed.

“I’ll be suiting up and punting balls in the NFL tomorrow,” Weatherford said.

Prior to Weatherford’s one-shot stint with the Jets, he played nine seasons with the New York Giants until his early-September release.

At the end of the day, $51,000 wasn’t a bad haul for Weatherford for showing up to a 60-minute game.
