Former Notre Dame Quarterback Everett Golson will Transfer to Florida State

It all comes full circle. Less than a year after losing to Florida State on the football field, it is being reported that former Notre Dame quarterback Everett Golson will now be a member of the Seminoles this upcoming fall.

Speaking to Fox Sports college football insider Bruce Feldman, Golson had this to say about his decision:

“After much thought and careful consideration, I will utilize my fifth year of eligibility to join the Florida State University Seminoles. To coach Jimbo Fisher, the Florida State football team, staff, alumni and fans, thank you for allowing me to become part of the Seminoles family. I can’t wait to get started.”

Considering Golson graduated from Notre Dame on Sunday, he will be eligible to suit up for Florida State this upcoming season. Golson will apparently compete with Sean Maguire to be the Seminoles starter, but he has to be considered the favorite to be under center when the season comes calling.

The senior quarterback chose Florida State after visiting with both Florida and Georgia over the past week. He left the Irish football program after being benched in favor of Malik Zaire, who started the team’s bowl game this past year. There’s an expectation here that Golson’s relationship with Notre Dame head coach Brian Kelly had become strained. Remember, the young quarterback was suspended for the entire 2013 season after an academic scandal.

Golson threw 41 touchdowns compared to 20 interceptions during his Notre Dame career. He also led the program to the National Championship game back in 2012.
