The Washington Redskins are reportedly looking to trade down from their current No. 5 slot in the NFL draft, according to NFL Media’s Insider Albert Breer.
This could result in additional picks for the Redskins, who currently have seven selections to make over the next three days. General manager Scot McCloughan indicated that he would like to try and get that number up to 10 in order to secure more players.
While the Redskins look to move down, they really do not want to fall past the first 15 which makes this potential trade situation risky for them. One important note that Breer points out is that in his past six drafts with the San Francisco 49ers, McCloughan had assisted in the selection of a tight end, linebacker, defensive lineman and three offensive linemen in the first round.
Should the team stick with picking fifth overall, choosing a pass rusher such as Clemson’s Vic Beasley or Florida’s Dante Fowler Jr. makes a world of sense to add to the team’s defense.
But, who knows? Washington could throw a major curve ball and wind up selecting Marcus Mariota if he is falls to No. 5. Current quarterback Robert Griffin III is not exactly treading on thick ice these days.
