Colin Kaepernick’s 2015 Salary Becomes Fully Guaranteed

Today marks the day that San Francisco 49ers’ quarterback Colin Kaepernick’s 2015 base salary of $10.4 million becomes guaranteed.

Kaepernick signed a six-year $114 million contract extension last June which fully guarantees his base salaries each year through 2017 if he is still on the team’s roster April 1 of each of each year.

As for 2018, 2019 and 2020, Kaepernick’s annual salaries of $15 million, $16.8 million and $19 million are not fully guaranteed.

Kaepernick could potentially earn up to $12.8 million in 2015, which includes roster bonuses, game-day bonuses, workout bonuses and team/individual based incentives.

The former second-round pick is on course to enter his third full year as the team’s starting quarterback. He has also been training for 10 weeks with former NFL quarterback Kurt Warner and quarterback guru Dennis Gile on tightening up his skills.

As for Kaepernick’s current pay situation, he’s earning the sixth-highest average annual salary among NFL quarterbacks. That number increases or decreases based on the aforementioned incentives.
