Derrick Rose to Undergo Surgery on Right Knee

So much for Chicago Bulls guard Derrick Rose helping lead his team to a top seed in the Eastern Conference down the stretch. It is being reported that the injury-prone former NBA MVP suffered a meniscus tear of the right knee and will have to undergo surgery.

While there’s no timetable for his return, it’s readily apparent that Rose will be out for an extended period of time. The guard also suffered a meniscus tear of the right knee back in November of 2013. He missed the final 72 game of the year that season. This doesn’t even take into account the torn ACL Rose suffered during the 2012 NBA Playoffs.

Reportedly, Rose told the Bulls he was suffering some discomfort in the right knee on Monday. News coming out on Tuesday confirmed that it was a meniscus tear. It’s highly unlikely Rose will be able to return at any point this season. Though, that likely won’t be confirmed until after the surgery.

After playing in a combined 49 games over the past two seasons, Rose had suited up for 46 games this year. He was averaging 18.4 points and five assists per game.

This is a major blow to the Bulls and their star point guard. Once again, we are left hoping for a speedy recovery for the former MVP.
