Report: Mike Shanahan Most Interested in Kaepernick, 49ers

Former NFL head coach Mike Shanahan has multiple suitors around the league, but one report from Bleacher Report’s Jason Cole indicates that he’s most interested in working with Colin Kaepernick as the San Francisco 49ers head coach.

The NFL insider indicates that Shanahan is willing to listen to the Buffalo Bills pitch, but multiple sources surrounding the veteran head coach are saying that’s meant as leverage against the 49ers, who interviewed Shanahan on New Year’s Day.

Shanahan believes that San Francisco gives him the best chance of winning immediately with the talent already on its roster, including Kaepernick.

If this report is correct, it could signal that a marriage between Shanahan and the 49ers is inevitable. We reported on Saturday that 49ers CEO Jed York had Shanahan high on the team’s list of potential head coaches to replace Jim Harbaugh. The two sides have an obvious history together with Shanahan coordinating San Francisco’s offense to No. 1 rankings from 1992-1994.

And while it appears that the Oakland Raiders have thrown their hat in the ring by interviewing Shanahan, it’s outlandish to believe that he would go back to an organization that fired him abruptly after he had a major spat with the late Al Davis.

Shanahan to San Francisco has to be seen as real possibility here soon.
