Fan Collapses and Dies at 49ers’ Levi’s Stadium Debut

Very little focus of the San Francisco 49ers initial game at Levi’s Stadium against the Denver Broncos was actually on the football field. Those in attendance and covering the game were more focused on their surroundings and other nuances than they were on the Broncos 34-0 defeat of the 49ers.

Reports following the game came in that a fan had collapsed during the game and was later transported to a local hospital, where he passed away (via ESPN.com).

The man received CPR and was rushed to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead. His name was not released.

The 49ers issued a statement Sunday night offering condolences to his family and friends.

Unlike the average 49ers game at Candlestick Park, heat will be somewhat of an issue for the team and spectators earlier in the season. It was reported to be in the 80’s with barely any wind. According to the San Jose Mercury News, this prompted an unusually high number of calls for emergecy services (h/t ESPN.com).

Our thoughts go out to the family of the man that passed away.
