Dodgers Acquire Kevin Correia From the Twins

The Los Angeles Dodgers apparently aren’t done adding reinforcements to one of the best pitching staffs in baseball. Less than a week after acquiring starter Roberto Hernandez from the Philadelphia Phillies, Los Angeles has added veteran journeyman Kevin Correia from the Minnesota Twins for a player to be named later (via MLB.com).

The 33-year-old righty is 5-13 with a 4.94 ERA and a 1.46 WHIP in 23 starts this season. He’s going to act as an insurance policy for a Dodgers team that will likely be without starter Josh Beckett for some time now after he was placed on the 15-day disabled list.

Correia’s best season came with the San Diego Padres back in 2009 when he put up a 12-11 record with a sub-four ERA. For the Dodgers, it’s all about adding a veteran that can eat up some innings down the stretch. Barring major injuries to the rotation, he likely won’t have much of an impact when the postseason comes along.

Los Angeles is currently 3.5 games ahead of the San Francisco Giants in the NL West with a 66-52 record.
