Normally this is something that wouldn’t interest football fans. A NFL player starring on the big screen. We’ve seen this dog-and-pony show before. However, Marshawn Lynch playing himself in a movie that focuses on what it was like to grow up in, and eventually overcome, the tough streets of Oakland could very well be an interesting flick.
Lynch had this to say about the project (via ESPN).
Just trying something new…For me, it’s just about having some fun. It’s just a fun experience. I also get to shine the light on the [Oakland] community and some of the things that we grew up doing and what we went through.
As ESPN mentions, the movie will also star newly signed San Francisco 49ers quarterback Josh Johnson as well as veteran actor Delroy Lindo, who has starred in some critically acclaimed movies, including Malcolm X.
The movie is set to be released late this year.
