As the New York Yankees deal with injury after injury, the team will be getting one of its lynchpins back for Saturday’s game against the Chicago White Sox.
Sidelined since before spring training with both a knee injury and a heart ailment, CC Sabathia will make his 2019 debut on the bump for New York this weekend.
Sabathia, 38, has spent each of the past 10 seasons with the Yankees. After flirting with other options this winter, he decided to re-sign on a one-year deal.
The six-time All-Star pitched to a 9-7 record with a 3.65 ERA and 1.61 WHIP in 29 starts last season.
Sabathia’s return fortifies a Yankees rotation that will see ace Luis Severino miss at least the next six weeks to injury.
It couldn’t come at a better time for the pinstripes.
