White Sox place star rookie Eloy Jimenez on IL

The Chicago White Sox will be without one of the game’s budding stars for at least the next 10 days.

The team announced on Wednesday that it has placed rookie outfielder Eloy Jimenez on the injured list with right ulnar nerve contusion, otherwise known as the funny bone.

Jimenez suffered the injury in the first inning of Tuesday’s game against the Kansas City Royals and could be out longer than that original 10-day timeline.

Signed to a six-year, $43 million extension before he even played in a MLB game, Jimenez has been hot and cold as a rookie.

The 22-year-old Dominican native is hitting .244 with 17 homers, 39 RBI and a .791 OPS this season.
