Shohei Ohtani gave up one run in seven innings on the mound, and had an RBI single, scored a run and stole a base while leading the Los Angeles Angels to a 6-2 win over the Colorado Rockies on Monday night in Anaheim, Calif.

Ohtani’s only blemish came on a fifth-inning home run from Rockies catcher and No. 9 hitter Dom Nunez. Ohtani made 99 pitches, giving up five hits, striking out five and walking none.

The Angels took an early lead against Rockies starter German Marquez thanks to an error by third baseman Joshua Fuentes, who couldn’t handle leadoff hitter David Fletcher’s sharp one-hopper.

Fletcher took second on a wild pitch, then scored on a single by Ohtani. After Justin Upton lined out to center for the first out, Ohtani stole second, his 14th of the season. Ohtani then scored on a single by Jared Walsh for a 2-0 Angels lead.

Ohtani, the pitcher, took it from there. He held the Rockies scoreless through four innings, limiting them to three hits. In the fifth, Nunez worked a full count and launched a slider over the fence in right field to cut the Angels’ lead to 2-1.

Ohtani (5-1) responded by retiring the Rockies in order in the sixth and seventh innings, before Angels third baseman Jack Mayfield gave the Ohtani and the Angels some breathing room in the bottom of the seventh with a two-run homer. Marquez retired the next batter before being lifted.

Marquez (8-8) went 6 1/3 innings, giving up four runs (three earned) and eight hits, striking out eight and walking none.

The Angels tacked on a couple runs in the eighth inning against the Rockies bullpen, getting an RBI single by Max Stassi and a sacrifice fly from Adam Eaton.

Angels closer Raisel Iglesias pitched a scoreless ninth in a non-save situation.
