WATCH: Jacob deGrom hits first career HR

Jacob deGrom is know for his beautiful long locks and his dominant right arm. But one thing the New York Mets pitcher isn’t know for his hitting home runs.

That all changed on Sunday when deGrom blasted a 379-foot shot over the left-centerfield wall in the third inning — his first career home run and just the second extra-base hit of his season.

This home run gave the Mets a 1-1 tie with the Washington Nationals, and it proved to be just the spark the Mets needed offensively. They went on to defeat the Nats 5-1, and deGrom went eight innings strong, giving up just three hits along with the lone run.

New York needs a lot more of this to catch Washington, however. The Nationals currently hold a 10.5-game lead over the Mets in the National League East as we approach the middle of the season.
