WATCH: Astros go back-to-back to open game

The Houston Astros can hit the ball a long way. It’s one of the primary reasons they have to be considered legitimate World Series contenders. And it starts with George Springer leading it off.

Detroit Tigers pitcher Spencer Turnbull found this out first-hand out of the gate Tuesday evening.

Up 1-0 heading into the bottom of the first in Houston, the youngster gave up a lead-off homer to Springer before yielding another homer to Jose Altuve just three pitches later.

Springer’s knock represented his 10th lead-off homer of the season. He’s now second behind Craig Biggio on that all-time list for the Houston Astros.

Even with Carlos Correa sidelined, these Astros have some major pop. Springer’s ability to get things started with a bang could prove to be huge as the season progresses.
