The last thing we expected this week was drama between San Antonio Spurs rookie first-round pick Victor Wembanyama and pop legend Britney Spears as he prepares for his Summer League debut in Las Vegas on Friday.
But here we are. The two international icons, from vastly different generations, clashed in Sin City Wednesday evening.
The story is absolutely wild. Las Vegas Police were dispatched to Aria on the Strip to investigate a potential battery. Wembanyama was headed to dinner with his security detail when an unknown person tapped him on the back. That person so happened to be Britney Spears.
Reportedly, she was slapped by a team security official, leading to Spears and her team filing a police report.
Victor Wembanyama talked about the incident in question following practice on Thursday, indicating that he had absolutely no idea what was happening as he was whisked away by security.
While Wembanyama seemingly downplays the incident in question, Mrs. Spears and her team are taking a different approach.
“I can’t imagine a scenario where an unarmed female fan showing any kind of excitement or appreciation for a celebrity would cause her to be physically assaulted,” Britney Spears husband said in a statement on Thursday.

Selected No. 1 overall in the 2023 NBA Draft by the Spurs last month, Wembanyama is seen as a generational prospect. He made international headlines as the France native dominated overseas, making him the clear No. 1 pick in the annual event.
As for Spears, she’s often referred to as the “Princess of Pop” since jumping on to the scene in the 1990’s. She has sold over 100 million records worldwide and is a Grammy Award winner.
Somehow, we don’t expect this to be the last we hear of Wednesday night’s incident in Las Vegas. It is an absolutely wild story.
