Jaylin Sellers is coming off a career night in UCF’s loss to Stetson last weekend, but coach Johnny Dawkins is hoping the 6-foot-4 transfer from Ball State gets a little help from his friends when the Knights host Lipscomb on Saturday afternoon in Orlando, Fla.

Sellers scored 34 points against Stetson, but the Hatters put up 55 in the second half to rally to an 85-82 victory.

“We need more than just Jaylin,” Dawkins said. “I thought he was terrific, but we need other guys taking advantage of what they have. Do what you do well and take what the defense gives you.

“That’s something we have to clean up when we’re watching tape with them, is showing them how we want them to execute certain situations.”

Sellers has scored in double figures in each of his first six games with four outings of at least 20 points and leads the team in scoring with his 22.2 average. He was 12 of 16 from the field overall and 3 of 6 on 3-pointers against Stetson.

Darius Johnson (13.7 ppg) and Marchelus Avery (11.3) also are averaging double figures for the Knights.

The Knights (4-2) are playing the second game of a seven-game homestand before opening Big 12 play next month when they host the Bisons (6-3), who have gone 6-1 since losing their first two games of the season.

Lipscomb is coming off an 82-68 home win over Chattanooga and has three of its next four games on the road.

“We’re going to hit a really, really, really tough stretch at Central Florida, at Belmont, and Tennessee State, and then at Arkansas,” coach Lennie Acuff said. “So it’s going to be a rough stretch.”

The Bisons had four players score in double figures in their latest outing and got a big game out of Will Pruitt. A starter the last two years, the junior guard scored 22 points and matched his career high with 16 rebounds.

Right at their season averages were Derrin Boyd with 17 points and AJ McGinnis with 13. Cody Head added 10 points off the bench.
