Toronto Blue Jays receive big Bo Bichette injury update

Two-time All-Star shortstop Bo Bichette is in the midst of a strong season for the Toronto Blue Jays, leading the American League with a .321 batting average entering MLB games today. On Monday, the 25-year-old superstar gave everyone a scare when he had to leave the game due to discomfort in his right knee.

Shortly after the game, manager John Schneider didn’t have much of an update on the young slugger, saying the team is still in the information-gathering process regarding Bichette’s injury. But on Tuesday, a more positive report came along when Schneider indicated the team’s MRI came back clean, showing no structural damage to Bichette’s right knee.

Yet, Bichette is not in Tuesday night’s Blue Jays lineup, and he is still considered day-to-day. For now, Bichette is not a candidate for the Injured List, but depending on how long his ailment lingers, it’s possible the IL becomes an option.

Despite the Blue Jays’ acquisition of Paul DeJong, it doesn’t seem to have anything to do with Bichette’s injury status. The expectation is for Toronto’s starting shortstop to resume his normal place in the lineup and at shortstop in the near future.

The Blue Jays play 13 days in a row, with their next off day not coming until August 14. Tonight’s matchup with the Baltimore Orioles begins at 7:07 PM ET, but Bichette isn’t on the lineup card.
