The Cincinnati Reds will be without one of their top prospects for at least the next calendar year.
The team announced on Monday evening that 2017 first-round pick Hunter Greene will undergo Tommy John Surgery.
This really is some bad news for the Reds and their young starting pitcher. Greene, 19, is considered one of Cincinnati’s top-three prospects.
Greene pitched to a 3-8 record with a 4.95 ERA in two low-level minor league stops last season. It remains to be seen when he’ll be able to return to the bump. But the Reds are certainly going to take it slow with the youngster.
