The Colorado Rapids dealt midfielder Bryan Acosta to the Portland Timbers on Tuesday in exchange for $150,000 in 2023 General Allocation Money.

The Timbers will also send the Rapids $175,000 in 2024 GAM if certain performance- and roster-based criteria are met, the teams announced.

Acosta, 29, was in his second season with Colorado after spending three years with FC Dallas.

“Bryan brings a wealth of experience to our club, and he provides us another solid option in a much-needed position,” Timbers general manager Ned Grabavoy said in a news release. “He will play an important role with us as we strengthen the group in our pursuit to pick up necessary results and finish the season strong.”

Acosta played 14 matches, starting 13, for the Rapids this season and tallied one assist. In 100 career regular-season matches (84 starts) between Dallas and Colorado, Acosta has two goals and nine assists. He also scored a goal in his lone playoff appearance for Dallas in 2019.

The Timbers (6-9-8, 26 points) are in 12th place in the Western Conference standings and are trying to move into a playoff spot. They’re not in nearly as tough of a spot as the last-place Rapids (3-10-10, 19 points), who earlier in the day dealt defender Anthony Markanich to St. Louis City for a 2024 first-round draft pick and cash.
