New York Yankees top prospect Spencer Jones has been a non-starter in most trade discussions, and the 22-year-old slugger showed this week why the Bronx Bombers want to hang on to the talented outfielder.
While the Yankees may not have gotten all the players they wanted this winter, they still made major splashes to improve the roster. A couple of months ago the organization made the biggest offseason trade when they acquired All-Star outfielder Juan Soto from the San Diego Padres.
Then last month they bolstered their starting rotation by signing two-time All-Star Marcus Stroman to a very team-friendly contract. While the organization made moves to improve their team now, there were also deals they avoided to ensure their future.

When the team made the trade for Soto there was one notable omission from the package when to San Diego, and that was prospect Spencer Jones. It was seen as a coup that the Yankees were able to land the star player they wanted without giving their best young player.
On Saturday during a spring training game against the Detroit Tigers, Jones showed his raw potential and why he is untouchable in trades when he absolutely crushed a pitched a shocking 470 feet. A video of the impressive moment can be found below.
The player taken with the 25th overall pick in the 2022 MLB Draft was ranked on MLB.com as the top prospect in their system after the 2023 season. In just two years the Vanderbilt product flew threw the system and ended last year playing in their Double-A affiliate.

The 6-foot-6 outfielder has been showing off his power for the last year and smashed 13 homers in 2023 while playing in High-A ball and Double-A. He likely could begin the year in Triple-A and it will be interesting to see if he can push his game to a level where he could be considered for a late-season call-up if needed.
