Seattle Seahawks guard Phil Haynes signed a one-year contract extension on Tuesday.

Financial terms were not disclosed by the Seahawks for Haynes, who was set to become an unrestricted free agent next month.

Haynes, 27, appeared in 15 games (three starts) last season. He finished the campaign having played in 51 percent of Seattle’s offensive snaps.

“He’s got a starting caliber to us,” Seahawks coach Pete Carroll said in his end-of-season press conference. “We like him. He’s physical. Consistent is a good word for him because he’s there. He’s there for you. He’s a great kid.

“It worked out well to put him and Gabe (Jackson) in. It helped Gabe with his knee, and it gave Phil a chance to be a comfortable starter. We had three guys. If anybody went down, we could rotate our guys around and get it taken care of. I’ve got high hopes that Phil could be a real factor for us.”

Haynes has appeared in 22 games (five starts) since being selected by the Seahawks in the fourth round of the 2019 NFL Draft out of Wake Forest.
