A new report claims the San Antonio Spurs are looking at a reunion with a former All-Star before the Feb. 8 NBA trade deadline.
Heading into the season, there was a lot of hope that the Spurs might be able to turn things around and possibly hover near .500. The expectations for the team were boosted in a major way due to the immense hype surrounding rookie Victor Wembanyama, and the hope that other young players could take another step forward in their development in 2023-24.

However, after 35 games the Spurs have one of the worst records in the NBA, and the five-win team is on pace to potentially have their lowest win total in franchise history. While Wembanyama has been a major bright spot and consistently shows why he has real superstar potential, he has not gotten enough help from his teammates.
San Antonio Spurs ‘exploring’ reunion with Dejounte Murray
Furthermore, the San Antonio front office’s resistance to bringing in proven veteran help this summer hasn’t helped matters. Well, that could soon change. On a Tuesday edition of FanDuel TV’s “Run it Back,” NBA insider Shams Charania reported the latest on the Dejounte Murray trade market and revealed, “One team that has a level of exploratory interest I’m told, is his former team, the San Antonio Spurs.”

The Spurs traded Murray in the summer of 2022 after six seasons with the franchise. The team shipped him off to the Atlanta Hawks when his value was at a peak after earning All-Star honors in the 2021-22 season.
Unfortunately, the combo of Murray and incumbent Hawks star Trae Young has disappointed the last two years and Atlanta is expected to be in sell mode before the February trade deadline.
