The Los Angeles Dodgers acquired right-handed starting pitcher Tyler Glasnow and outfielder Manuel Margot from the Tampa Bay Rays in exchange for right-hander Ryan Pepiot and outfielder Jonny Deluca, ESPN and The Athletic reported Thursday.

The deal is contingent on Glasnow signing a contract extension, the reports said. He was under contract through 2025 but his window for a possible extension opened Thursday.

Glasnow has shown flashes of promise as a staff ace — when healthy. He underwent Tommy John surgery in 2021 and was limited to two starts in 2022 upon finishing his rehab. He has pitched just 60 games over the past five seasons.

Glasnow, 30, went 10-7 with a 3.53 ERA in 21 starts last season, striking out a career-high 162 batters in 120 innings. He has a career 3.89 ERA and a 30-27 record in 127 games (88 starts) for the Pittsburgh Pirates (2016-18) and Tampa Bay (2018-23).

The Dodgers are working on replacing multiple pieces in their starting rotation. It’s unclear whether franchise icon Clayton Kershaw, a free agent, will return. Julio Urias is not expected to return amid an investigation into alleged domestic violence.

Dustin May underwent right elbow surgery to repair his flexor tendon on July 18 and his return timetable is unclear. Tony Gonsolin had Tommy John surgery on his right elbow in August, repairing his right torn ulnar collateral ligament.

The Dodgers signed two-way star Shohei Ohtani, who was formally introduced by the team Thursday, but Ohtani will not pitch in 2024 as he recovers from Tommy John surgery.

Margot, 29, has primarily played center field and is a career .255 hitter with 52 home runs and 283 RBIs over 788 games with the San Diego Padres (2016-19) and Tampa Bay (2020-23). He hit .264 last season with four homers, 21 doubles and 38 RBIs over 99 games.

Pepiot, 26, went 2-1 with a 2.14 ERA over eight appearances (three starts) in 2023. He is 5-1 with a 2.76 ERA since making his MLB debut in 2022.

Deluca, 25, made his major league debut in June and batted .262 with two homers and six RBIs over 24 games for the Dodgers.
