Report: Redskins would take a seventh-round pick for Robert Griffin III

Robert Griffin III

After giving up three first-round picks and one second-rounder to trade up for Robert Griffin III four years ago, the Washington Redskins reportedly are willing to take “anything” they could get for the quarterback.

Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio reports Washington is desperate to land anything it can in return for RG3, which is why he is still on the roster.

“Per a league source, Washington would take anything they could get for Griffin — even a seventh-round draft pick.”

From Washington’s standpoint, this is completely understandable.

After giving up the farm to land the quarterback, it would be unbelievably tragic for the organization to let him go without getting a single thing in return, other than a fan base which had its dreams of a dynasty led by Griffin III crushed like barley.

That said, at this point there haven’t been any takers, which suggests any team that could potentially be interested in the quarterback would have already made a move, given the price tag.

PFT has also reported in the past that RG3 might be willing to restructure his contract “for the right team” (aka the Dallas Cowboys). The only problem with this is that Dallas reportedly has little to no interest in the quarterback, with offensive coordinator Scott Linehan viewing him as a poor fit in his offense.

It seems like the writing is on the wall for Washington to be forced to simply cut its losses and release Griffin III before the new league year, which starts on March 9, 2016.
