Report: Al Jefferson released by Pacers

Al Jefferson

The Indiana Pacers have reportedly released veteran center Al Jefferson on Monday, according to Shams Charania of Yahoo Sports.

Jefferson still had a year left on his contract and was due to make $10 million, with the Pacers being subject to a $4 million dead cap hit upon his release.

Originally the No. 15 overall pick of the 2004 NBA Draft, Jefferson has played for the Pacers the past two seasons. He’s appeared in 102 games since 2016, averaging 7.7 points and 4.1 rebounds during this stretch.

Last year, Jefferson appeared in just 36 games, however, and is definitely on the decline. The tenured veteran turned 33 in January.
