Report: 76ers trading Richaun Holmes to Suns

The Philadelphia 76ers are opening a roster slot and shedding a little salary by trading Richaun Holmes to the Phoenix Suns.

Shams Charania of Yahoo Sports broke the news.

Holmes played 20.9 minutes per game in 2016-17, but he mostly fell out of the rotation last season. The 24-year-old appeared in 48 games, averaging 15.5 minutes.

Phoenix, which acquired buyout candidate Darrell Arthur earlier in the day, needed a replacement for veteran forward Jared Dudley. Holmes can fill a comparable semi-regular role off the bench.

The Suns absorbed Holmes and his expiring $1.6 million contract into cap space. Philly sent cash considerations to Phoenix and, in a subsequent move, signed 2017 second-round pick Jonah Bolden to a four-year contract.
