Red Sox to Meet with Pablo Sandoval Next Week

Seemingly looking to upgrade at third base, the Boston Red Sox are reportedly set to meet with postseason hero Pablo Sandoval, who turned down a qualifying offer from the San Francisco Giants immediately after the team’s World Series championship.

According to The Boston Globe’s Nick Cafardo, the meeting will take place next week.

Sandoval is coming off a 2014 regular season that saw him show a ton of inconsistency, hitting .279 with 16 homers and 73 RBI’s. As has been the case in recent seasons the former World Series MVP turned it on big time in October. He reached base 31 times and hit .366 during the Giants world championship run.

The third baseman is said to be looking for a nine-figure deal over over six years and is willing to leave some money on the table for a longer-term contract.

This position was a major weakness for a disappointing Red Sox team in 2014. Will Middlebrooks hit just .191 in 63 games, while a combination of other lesser options failed to get it done when the former Red Sox top prospect wasn’t on the field.
