Red Bulls make two trades, add midfielder Caden Clark

The New York Red Bulls added midfielder Caden Clark to the roster Wednesday after making two trades to claim the No. 1 spot in the MLS Allocation Order.

The 18-year-old American arrives on loan from Red Bull Leipzig for the 2022 MLS season with an option to extend.

To acquire Clark, New York traded $575,000 in 2022 general allocation money to Toronto FC to acquire the No. 2 overall slot in the allocation order and a 2022 international roster slot.

NYRB then sent the No. 2 slot and $100,000 in 2022 general allocation money to FC Cincinnati in order to gain the No. 1 position.

“We are delighted to be able to bring Caden back this season with the opportunity to extend for a further year,” Red Bulls head of sport Kevin Thelwell said in a news release. “Caden has gained great experience last season in his time with us and also with the National team this offseason. I am sure this will stand him in good stead for a great season.”

Clark made his MLS debut with New York in 2020 and registered six goals and five assists in 31 matches (20 starts) over the past two seasons.

“I am happy to see Caden rejoin us for this season,” Red Bulls head coach Gerhard Struber said. “His knowledge of our system and skill set will help build depth in the team.”

Internationally, Clark earned his first call-up to the U.S. men’s national team in December. He competed with the Under-20 squad at the 2021 Revelations Cup.
