The San Jose Police Department is investigating San Francisco 49ers defensive lineman Ray McDonald on allegations that he sexually assaulted a woman on Monday.
San Jose Police spokeswoman Heather Randol had this to say about the case on Wednesday morning (via SF Gate).
The preliminary investigation revealed the alleged suspect was Ray McDonald.
The unidentified woman, who was interviewed by investigators at the hospital on Tuesday morning, told them that she was “possibly sexually assaulted” the day before.
No charges have been filed in the case.
McDonald was in the news earlier this year after being arrested on domestic violence charges in relation to a situation with his then pregnant fiancee. No charges were filed in that case.
This seems to be a pattern of issues as it relates to the veteran defensive lineman. And while the idea of due process makes sense in most cases, McDonald is yet again finding himself under the microscope for all the wrong reasons.
It will be interesting to see if the 49ers act quick here or stand behind McDonald like they did during the domestic violence situation earlier in the year.
